Once again the MCC have asked us to look after Tipley Hill on the Exeter Trial
on Saturday, 9th January 2016. This is one of the best Club events of the
year, that for the last while has been run by a stalwart band of Club members
from as far afield as Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The Club turnout in 2009 was
magnificent, presumably because they set out not realising how blooming cold
it was going to be. But, for this year we definitely need all who came last year
and if possible a few more. Our task now includes marshalling Lenda Lane
between our hill, Tipley, and the previous hill, Simms, valiantly managed all day
by the Greenwoods in 2009. Tipley had more failures than Simms in 2009 - it
hasn't been improved - so we will need lots of 'bodies' at the restart.
The hill is mop reference 1 91 /795758, or for the orthographically challenged,
Exeter/ M5, continue on ASS until the A382 junction (Bovey Tracey). Follow
signs from the junction on minor roads to Liverton. Go through Liverton on
the road to llsington and Tipley will be found on the right after ^ mile. We
will be setting up from about 9.30am.
2009 was freezing and we've had wet days, very wet days, warm days and
sunny days on this event. It can be quite hard work at times, but always fun
and certainly gets you moving after the New Year. Please do try and make it,
and early notification of likely attendees would be useful as I have to guarantee
to the MCC that I've got the manpower.
Contact Graham Skillen or Peter Weale (details to be found elsewhere) or Jeff
Calver (0191 384 3114) if you want to stay over on Saturday for the MCC
Club Supper.
