ICKNIELD RALLY 14TH& 15TH JUNE 2008

Based around the Sussex/Hampshire border, the rally starts at Stansted Park, a local stately home. Although not open on the Saturday, we will be able to park in front of it and the grounds, arboretum, garden centre, restaurant and steam railway will all be open for you to enjoy. Saturday evening will be food and drinks at one of our houses. On Sunday we will meet at a viewpoint overlooking Portsmouth, almost opposite the Churchillian Pub on the B2177 Portsdown Hill Road, just to the west of the A3 junction at about 10-15, before taking a short drive to the Royal Armouries Fort Nelson, to arrive between 11-0 to11-30, where a very good roast lunch can be had. There we will be joined by a selection of cars from the South Hants Vehicle Preservation Society to have the cars on display inside the fort. There is a small charge of £3 per car for this privilege. For those in modern cars, free parking is opposite the fort and entrance to the fort is free. We hope you will stay until at least 4-o-clock before making your way home.
Note - There are no toilets at the viewpoint.
To get to Stansted Park, Travel to JUNCTION 2 on the A3M and take the turning off signposted ROWLANDS CASTLE .From the motorway go the short distance downhill to the ROUNDABOUT and TURN RIGHT (look out for brown Stansted House signs), to Rowlands Castle, B2149. Follow this road to the DOUBLE ROUNDABOUT and take the TURNING BETWEEN THE PUB AND THE GARAGE signed to Stansted House and EMSWORTH, B2148. Follow this road over the railway, through the woods and TURN LEFT AT THE FIRST CROSSROADS. Signposted Stansted Park and Funtingdon.
About a mile up this road take SECOND LEFT signed to Stansted Park. The entrance to the park is about 1mile on the right and is the second entrance, just past the sawmill, signed Stansted Offices. We will meet you at the top of the drive. A map and detailed directions for both days will be sent to those who tell me they are coming.
