Opening Run Report
The Opening Run on 25th April 2004 was held in beautiful sunny weather (as ordered!);
the meeting place being the Bath Arms, Cheddar. A good gathering enjoyed
Sunday lunch and liquid refreshments before setting off on a 30 mile route
across the Mendip Hills and descending the Cheddar Gorge.
There was a good selection of vehicles; the six trikes of, Mike Scott - Coomber,
John Wright, Dean Southall, John Joiner, Graham Skillen and Pete Newman; the
Scout of Paul Williams; Trevor Picken with his MG TD and Dave Elmer with his Triumph
Roadster. Peter Bowler, John Chadwick and lan Pinkney saw the vehicles off
from the start. Past trike owners and ex-members of the club, Peter Tillett (Austin 7)
and John Packer (BSA A1 0 Combination) also joined in the run, as did guests John
Chatburn (1931 Austin Swallow) and John Bennett (BSA Combination).
Peter Tillett judged the BSAs and awarded the Small Heath Cup to Dean Southall
with his very nice trike.
About 30 members and guests attended at the start of the day, some left early but
22 remained after the run to enjoy a good natter with tea/coffee and biscuits in the
Bath Arms.
