Opening Run |
|
The Opening run, as the name suggests, is the traditional "Opener" for the new season
when Spring is in the air, BSAs are polished up, and BSA owners are eagerly looking forward
to seeing old friends, and meeting new ones. As with most of our rallies we vary the venue from year to year
and we hope that this one will be well attended and blessed with fine weather.

We will combine the event with the Daimler and Lanchester Owners' Club. We hope to have several Daimlers plus Ferret and Dingo Scout cars. I regret having to let you know that, owing to bereavement in the pub over the road from Kneller Hall, we will not be able to offer pub lunches on 25 April. By the kind permission of the RSM, however, we can offer light lunches in the Sergeants Mess of the Royal Military School of Music - which will be open between about 1230 and 1400. It will offer a selection of baguettes, sandwiches and plated salads for £5.20 per person — and the bar will be open. I would very much appreciate as good an indication of numbers as we can get in order that food is not wasted and that there is enough to go around so must ask that as many people as possible intending to come let me know (by email or telephone) if they're hoping to eat. Drinks will not be a problem for those arriving on the day and people will be very welcome to come with picnics. Fingers crossed that this doesn't become a problem but the situation has developed a little beyond my control. The meet, weather permitting, should however be a good one. And I have the promise now of both a Daimler Ferret and an-ex London Transport RT class double decker, similar to one that I owned myself 20 plus years ago. It's green though whereas mine was red. Should anyone wonder about the relevance, both vehicles are equipped with preselector gearboxes. We will meet at the Duke of Cambridge pub which is directly opposite the main gates of Kneller Hall where lunch will be available if required. Kneller Hall has a small museum and the Curator will be present for guided tours for those interested in the Military or music or both. There will be plenty of hard standing for the cars but if your car is known for oil drips please bring a drip tray to minimise the cleaning of the parade square after the event. There is no charge for entry although there may be a bucket for contributions towards: (a) Any charges that may be levied for the event by the MOD Estates Department. (b) For the Corps of Army Music Trust - a benevolent organisation supporting the welfare needs of serving and former Army musicians. The gates of Kneller Hall will be opened at 10.00am for those attending or who require pub food. Please contact Mark Cuthbert-Brown on 0208 744 8621 or email markcuthbertbrown@me.com . For security purposes and to avoid queues please give Mark vehicle details, ie registration number, model and colour. For further information of Kneller Hall please Click here |
