Challengers Rally 25/26th September Kop Hill, Princes Risborough, Bucks
Organiser Peter Cook
This year the Challengers rally will be held over the weekend of the 25/26th September at Kop Hill revival climb, near Princes Risborough, Bucks. The location Kop Hill Road, Princes Risborough, HP27 0LB, Map reference OS sheet 165 815030. This year's Kop Hill event celebrates the first recorded races by motorcyclists in 1910. The hill was in regular use by motorcycles and motorcars until 1925 when, as a result of an accident on the hill, all racing on public roads in Britain was banned. Kop Hill is just over 1000 metres long to the summit and rises by 100 metres. It starts with a gentle slope and is 1 in 6 at the half way mark. The road then eases off before it gets even steeper at 1 in 4 just before the summit. The finish of the run is before the summit to allow vehicles to slow down. From start to finish the run is 860 metres. The road is well surfaced. For two days, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of September the hill will be returned to its glorious past.

Storming the hill this year will be over 300 historic vehicles from the earliest days through to post-war classics. These will be leavened by a few modern exotic cars showing how motoring has developed over the last 100 years. I attended last year on both days in the Scout and had a fantastic time meeting local members and owners of some fantastic machinery including a FWD Alvis; The event is not a speed hill climb but rather a commemorative run to recall exciting past of the Kop Hill climb. Spectators are able to see and hear the vehicles on the Hill and can have a close up view of the vehicles in the paddock.
The entry for the hill is already full and it is unlikely we will be able to run our cars on the hill.
However this year the organiser have allowed cars that are not taking part in the run to park in the paddock if they are pre booked. Alternative members can park in the public car park and last vintage and classics were all parked together at front of the start of the hill. Individuals or members of Registered Clubs wishing to pre-book and park in the paddock should click the "Pre-Book" tab on the left hand menu on the Kop Hill 2010 web site. The cost for a car is £15 per day, which includes one passenger (extra passengers charged £5 on the day) and for bikes is £8. If you intend to attend and book into the paddock you need to do this on line and go to the following web site. I will be attending in the Scout on both days.
